In wake of daughter’s suicide, R.I. family creates public crusade of rainbows

Cassie’s suicide shocked South County and brought Cindy and John, who lives with depression, deeper into the mental-health system as both sought therapy. And while they could have receded from public view, after grieving they did not. Instead, they determined to create common good from personal tragedy.

The result was a growing public crusade that includes the Rainbow Race, a yearly fundraiser that benefits the Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
